About my Journey
If you had asked me years ago where my life would lead, I never would have imagined this.
God has allowed me to serve in many roles throughout my life—as a teacher, coach, principal, superintendent, business leader, author, speaker, husband, and father. Each chapter has taught me something about leadership, faith, and the incredible grace of God.
But some of my greatest lessons didn’t come through success.
They came through loss.
Like many people, I’ve experienced seasons that tested my faith in ways I never expected. I’ve walked through the heartbreak of losing a child, the pain of losing loved ones, disappointment, uncertainty, and moments when life simply didn’t make sense. Those experiences changed me, but they also deepened my dependence on Christ. I discovered that God is often doing His greatest work in us during our darkest valleys.
Through every victory and every hardship, one truth has remained constant: God has been faithful.
Today, I’m blessed to share life with my wife, Nicole, and our family. They remind me daily that our greatest calling isn’t found in titles or accomplishments, but in loving God well and loving the people He has entrusted to us.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of leading schools, organizations, and teams, but my greatest passion today is helping men become the leaders God created them to be. Too many men fight silent battles with fear, shame, pride, anger, addiction, anxiety, and purpose. They wear a smile on the outside while carrying a war within.
That’s why I founded Be The One Ministries.
My mission is simple: to help men fight the war within through biblical truth, authentic brotherhood, and practical discipleship. Whether through my book The War Within, Walk with Wallis, speaking at churches and conferences, or connecting with men one-on-one, my prayer is that every person who encounters this ministry leaves encouraged, equipped, and reminded that they never have to fight alone.
If you’re here, welcome.
About My Journey
Lifetime of Leadership
Teacher / Coach
My career began in Lamesa, Texas, where I started teaching and coaching immediately after graduating from college.
Later, I joined Mesquite ISD, where I was honored to be nominated for the Sallie Mae First-Year Teacher Award.
As an assistant football coach at North Mesquite High School, I helped coach a team ranked #1 in Texas and #1 in the nation for much of the season.
Although our championship run ended in the playoffs, I learned one of life’s greatest lessons:
Success never defines you.
Failure never has the final word.
Principal
Serving as an Assistant Principal and later a High School Principal taught me that leadership is about building people.
During those years I was honored to receive:
Region 10 Assistant Principal of the Year
Region 10 Principal of the Year
Texas High School Principal of the Year (TASSP)
Those years reinforced my belief that great schools are built by developing great people.
Superintendent
Serving as Superintendent allowed me to lead entire communities through growth and transformation.
I first served in Palestine ISD before accepting the opportunity to lead Bryan ISD.
While serving Bryan ISD, I was honored to receive the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Superintendent of the Year Award for innovation and educational leadership.
During my years in educational leadership, I was also honored to receive the Texas A&M Dean’s Roundtable Outstanding Educator Award and the John R. Hoyle Award for Educational Leadership—recognitions that reflected my commitment to developing leaders and serving others with integrity.
Later, God called me to Kirbyville CISD.
It was there that one of the most difficult seasons of my life unfolded following the tragic suicide of one of our principals.
That experience forever changed my leadership.
It taught me that leadership isn’t simply about making decisions.
It’s about loving people through unimaginable pain.
More than anything, it taught me complete dependence upon God’s grace, wisdom, and discernment.
Sometimes our greatest leadership lessons are learned during life’s darkest valleys.
Business Leader
After retiring from public education, God opened an unexpected door into the technology industry.
Today I serve as one of the top Business Development Managers within my company, helping organizations build outstanding technology teams.
Business development has reinforced something I’ve believed my entire career:
People don’t build relationships because you’re a smooth talker.
They build relationships because they trust you.
Whether leading schools or serving clients, genuine relationships have always been the foundation of everything I do.
Author
Technically, The War Within wasn’t my first book.
Years ago, I wrote my doctoral dissertation. While it certainly qualified as a book, I’m convinced its greatest contribution to society has been helping a few people fall asleep. If you’re struggling with insomnia, I can probably get you a copy.
Thankfully, God had another book in mind.
More than fifteen years ago, I felt Him placing a message on my heart. Like many callings from God, I wrestled with it, questioned it, and honestly took far longer than I should have.
But God never removed the calling.
When The War Within was finally released, He did far more than I ever imagined.
Within the first two weeks, more than 500 copies found their way into the hands of readers.
That’s when I realized something.
God never intended The War Within to simply be a book.
He intended it to become the beginning of a ministry.
Speaker
Speaking has been part of my life since 2001.
I’ve been blessed to keynote Teacher of the Year celebrations, speak at the Texas A&M School of Medicine, present at conferences across the country, lead leadership events, and fill pulpits whenever churches have called.
Whether speaking to educators, executives, churches, or men’s conferences, my heart remains the same:
To encourage people to become who God created them to be.
Founder – Be The One Ministries
Several years ago, while attending a men’s conference, God quietly placed a dream on my heart.
It wasn’t simply to write a book.
It wasn’t simply to speak.
It was to build a ministry.
Throughout my career, one of my greatest passions has been mentoring others and helping them discover and fulfill God’s calling on their lives.
Today, Be The One Ministries is the continuation of that calling.
Every book.
Every message.
Every conference.
Every Walk with Wallis video.
Every conversation.
Every relationship.
Has one purpose:
Helping men fight the war within so they can become the man God created them to be.
Selected Honors & Recognition
While I’m grateful for these recognitions, they are not what define my leadership. The greatest honor has always been the opportunity to invest in people, develop future leaders, and watch others discover and fulfill God’s calling on their lives. Texas High School Principal of the Year (TASSP)
Region 10 Principal of the Year
Region 10 Assistant Principal of the Year
TCEA Texas Superintendent of the Year

John R. Hoyle Award for Educational Leadership
Sallie Mae First-Year Teacher Award Nominee “Every step of my journey has led to this calling: Helping men fight the war within so they can become the man God created them to be.”
